Thinc offers tomorrow’s talent a view of their future

At Thinc we’re passionate about bringing through tomorrow’s talent. We were therefore delighted to help a local student learn more about our business and industry.

During the summer, we had local sixth-form student Bertie Richards join up with our teams in the Manchester office. Over the five days, Bertie was involved in a series of roles across different departments. We asked a few people – including Bertie himself – for their reflections on his time with us.

Reflections from Bertie and his school

Bertie had this to say about his time with us:

During my time at Thinc, I had the opportunity to explore a range of departments including Marketing, HR and Finance. Each offered a unique perspective on how different functions contribute to the overall success of a business.

While all departments provided valuable experiences, the most impactful part of my placement was attending the quarterly meeting of the Business Advisory and Marketing team. This meeting allowed me to see the company from a broader, more strategic viewpoint. I gained a deeper understanding of the targets being set at Thinc, the reasoning behind them, and how various teams plan to work together to meet these goals.

Being in that environment really opened my eyes to the inner workings of a business and how important collaboration, planning and performance tracking are to ongoing success. It was a level of insight I hadn’t experienced before, and it shifted the way I think about careers in business. It gave me a clearer view of what it means to work in a corporate setting and helped shape my thinking around my future professional direction.

One department that stood out to me throughout this experience was Sales. I was especially drawn to how the team approaches challenges and targets, and how driven they are to perform well and bring in results. Seeing the level of focus, communication and strategy that goes into their work really sparked my interest. It inspired me to seriously consider Sales as a future career path, as it seems to be a role that blends interpersonal skills, problem-solving and business understanding in a fast-paced environment.

Finally, I enjoyed being part of the office culture. Spending time in a professional workplace gave me a much better understanding of what to expect in the future. It was insightful to observe how teams interact, how meetings are conducted, and how people manage their time and responsibilities.

Overall, the experience was not only informative but motivating, and it has left a strong impression on me as I think about my next steps.”

We also had the chance to speak with Andrew Gallamore, Head of Careers at Bertie’s school, Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. Andrew has had this to say about Bertie’s experience with us:

“We are incredibly grateful to Thinc for welcoming one of our Year 12 students, Bertie, for a work experience placement over the summer.

“Opportunities like this are invaluable for sixth-form students. They allow young people to step outside of the classroom, experience the workplace first-hand, and begin to build the skills and confidence that will support them in their future careers.

“Bertie thoroughly enjoyed his time with the team, gaining practical insights, and now has a clearer understanding of the professional world. Experiences like these not only help our students grow but also inspire them to aim higher and explore new possibilities.

“On behalf of our school, thank you to everyone at Thinc for giving your time and support – it truly makes a difference.”

Thinc’s thoughts on Bertie’s placement

Kavita Chadwick, our Administrative Executive who supported with his placement across the business for the week, was impressed by Bertie’s attitude from day one:

“We know starting something new can be a little overwhelming, but Bertie showed willingness and professionalism from day one! Bertie was with Thinc for five days and took the opportunity to learn and support different departments, spending time with Marketing, Finance, Admin, and HR.

“He was involved in everything from strategy meetings to everyday admin. It was a pleasure to have Bertie join the team, and we hope he gained valuable insight and experience during his time here.”

Nousheen Shaikh, our People Executive, also worked directly with Bertie to coordinate his day-to-day during his time with us. She had this to say about the experience of working with him:

“Bertie was with me for a day where we covered different aspects of Human Resources, such as talent management, learning and development, employee relations, onboarding/offboarding, and company policies. He demonstrated great attention to detail, a strong sense of commitment, and an open and proactive attitude towards learning.

“His professionalism and eagerness to contribute were evident throughout the week. It was a pleasure to have him onboard, whilst for a short time, I know he is going to achieve great things, both academically and professionally.”

We’d like to collectively thank Bertie once again for his work during work experience, and we’d welcome him back any time!
