Fizz delivers product demos across the UK for the biggest brands. We’ve been by the team’s side for 15 years, helping them to unlock value from their technologies.
If you’ve ever been in a store and noticed somebody offering samples of a new product, then chances are you’ve encountered somebody from Fizz. For three decades, the award-winning team has been helping brands and supermarkets launch new lines and increase sales, delivering 84,000 demos a year. The company works with some of the biggest names in retail, including Costco through its WDS arm.
For 15 of those 30 years, Fizz has been working with Thinc. It’s a story of genuine, long-term partnership – and we’re very proud to be at Fizz’s side as it goes from strength to strength.
We first began to work together back in 2010, when Fizz was operating as Power Girls. At the time, Managing Director Darren Pinner, along with IT and Systems Development Manager Dave Walford, faced a challenge of mounting complexity, with over 15 separate processes, in many cases manual, needed for the business to operate.
Darren and Dave required a single interface that would allow them to manage the whole business – customer records, orders, invoices, receipts and more – in one place, with Sage MMS (the predecessor to Sage 200) at the core.
While these days we have the tools to make systems integration simple, back then a bespoke interface such as this was a complex undertaking, with all the development required in Sage MMS and Windows.
It was clear that this was a challenge that needed a deep understanding of every aspect of how the business worked. To scope out the project, we spent a number of days across their offices, with Darren detailing the processes to us. We’d take this knowledge and work up our recommended solutions in Sage, and then join up with Dave to collaborate on the implementation. After full testing, the solution was ready to go.
The interface that we developed hasn’t actually needed to change a lot since. It still serves the complex needs of the business. Whenever new requirements emerge, the team come to us, and we make the required tweaks and optimisations they need.
But that’s not to say that there haven’t been major changes elsewhere. An example is when Fizz’s internal servers were beginning to show signs of age, impacting the services that Fizz’s people rely upon. With a full replacement looking likely, the team had a choice – keep things on premises, with full control of their data, or free up space by moving to the cloud.
We were able to provide an ideal solution: the reassurance of private hosting, offered via our Thinc Cloud. As well as migrating its platforms, we fully upgraded its ERP and the custom interface that brings all their systems together.
Working together for so long means we have a genuine partnership – the Fizz team know they can trust our advice as we know their business so well.
The move to Thinc Cloud has particularly benefited Dave as he no longer has to give up his valuable time attending to server problems. The finance team also reports that many of the issues they experienced before the cloud migration and Sage 200 upgrade are a thing of the past.
At Thinc, we believe long-term relationships such as this are the key to truly harnessing technology to power growth. It’s an honour and a pleasure to be working with Fizz as their story continues.
